At Tapestry International Women’s Network, our impact goes beyond the events we organize, the celebrations we host, or the initiatives we support.
Our greatest impact lies in the human connections we create.
It is found in the friendships that begin between strangers, the stories shared across cultures and generations, the confidence gained by women finding their voices, and the sense of belonging that grows when people feel welcomed, valued, and included.
Since 2018, Tapestry has grown from a grassroots initiative into an incorporated, volunteer-driven non-profit organization, bringing people together through cultural celebrations, community conversations, mentorship, educational support, and acts of giving.
Our annual Global Food Picnic, International Women’s Day celebrations, community circles, and collaborative initiatives are more than activities. They are opportunities to break down barriers, challenge stereotypes, celebrate diversity, and build meaningful relationships.
Through the Tapestry–Rotary Bursary, we are also helping women pursue their educational aspirations, while our community contributions reflect our belief in giving back and lifting others along the way.

These moments may not always be captured in numbers, but they are at the heart of what Tapestry strives to achieve.
We measure our success not simply by how many people attend, but by how many connections endure, how many opportunities emerge, and how many people leave feeling that they belong.

From Small Beginnings to Meaningful Connections
Every community initiative begins with an idea, a shared purpose, and people who believe in making a difference.
Tapestry International Women’s Network began its journey in 2018 as a grassroots initiative in Thunder Bay, bringing women from diverse cultures, backgrounds, and generations together to connect, share experiences, build friendships, and find a sense of belonging.
What began as a simple effort to create meaningful connections has grown into a volunteer-driven, incorporated non-profit organization that celebrates diversity, empowers women, and contributes to a more welcoming and inclusive community.
Celebrating Cultures, Building Connections
Since 2020, Tapestry’s annual Global Food Picnic has brought people together through the universal language of food. More than a celebration of global cuisines, it has become a space for cultural exchange, storytelling, friendship, and community participation.
Our International Women’s Day celebrations recognize the achievements, resilience, talents, and contributions of women from all walks of life, creating opportunities to celebrate, learn from, and inspire one another.
Turning Connections into Community Action
Over the years, Tapestry has expanded its activities to include community conversations, thematic circles, cultural showcases, mentorship, volunteer engagement, and collaborative initiatives.
Through these efforts, we have created opportunities for newcomer women, youth, international students, seniors, and long-time residents to connect across cultures and generations.
Giving back is an important part of our journey. Through donations, community outreach, and volunteer-led efforts, Tapestry has supported local organizations and initiatives serving women, children, families, youth, and seniors.
Supporting Women’s Aspirations
A meaningful milestone in our journey has been the establishment of the Tapestry–Rotary Bursary, supporting three women pursuing postsecondary education at Confederation College.
This initiative reflects our belief that empowering women goes beyond bringing people together. It also means creating opportunities for education, personal growth, confidence, and a brighter future.
Growing Together, Looking Ahead
From informal gatherings to community-wide celebrations, from cultural exchange to educational support, Tapestry continues to evolve through the generosity of volunteers, community partners, sponsors, and supporters.
As we grow, our commitment remains unchanged: to create spaces where every woman feels welcomed, valued, connected, and empowered to contribute.
Our impact is not measured only by the events we organize or the initiatives we support, but also by the friendships formed, the confidence gained, the opportunities created, and the sense of belonging we nurture.
